Penalties for Petty Theft & Grand Theft in Florida

1st Degree Grand Theft: (Property stolen valued at $100,000 or more.) Up to 30 years in prison and fines of up to $10,000.

2nd Degree Grand Theft: (Property stolen valued between $20,000 and $99,999.) Up to 15 years in prison and fines of up to $10,000.

3rd Degree Grand Theft: (Property stolen valued between $300 and $19,999.) Up to 5 years in jail and a $5,000 fine. A charge of third degree grand theft also applies if the property taken is a firearm, motor vehicle, commercially farmed animal, fire extinguisher or any amount of fruit consisting of 2,000 or more pieces, a stop sign, construction sign, or anhydrous ammonia.

1st Degree Petty Theft: (Property stolen valued between $100 and $299.) Up to 1 year in jail and a $1000 fine.

2nd Degree Petty Theft: (Property stolen valued at less than $100 or not specified in any other theft statute.) Up to 60 days in jail and a $500 fine.
